Duncan Sheik is great. I love both of his tracks on the Saint and Great Expectations

mis_mis_eree: New(?) music

K, so I finished installing soulseek on my Mac, but now it's not connecting. Bah.

If you haven't heard of Explosions in the Sky, check them out. "The Only Moment We Were Alone" is a good one to start with.

mis_mis_eree: Reccs?

Allllll right. Now it's time to start a rec thread. For the two of us who are on this list, because contrary to the info statement, I managed to be a total twat and refuse membership to the one person who tried to join because...I was an elitist whore.

Iron and Wine, Naked As We Came
Damien Rice, I Remember
Stereolab, Changer
Andrew Bird, Don't be Scared
Andrew Bird's Bowl of Fire, Satisfied
Death Cab for Cutie, A Lack of Color

and of course, where would we be without the Nick Drake, River Man, One of These Things First and Northern Sky.

Your mission, should you choose to accept it? Find me a new musician/band that I've never heard of and will fall madly in love with at first listen.

jorajo: Mtv is ruining a generation

So today I went to Mtv to see if I could find any jewels of Howieness and I stumbled across a 2 1/2 minute news clip about him from 2002 or early 2003. It was riddled with errors, mainly of the song titles. The best part of the clip was the story about Dave going to Captain Nick's because they showed pictures of Howie playing there. Wee, wee Howie in the restaurant. But yes, they called Beams of Light "In the Future" and Sorry So Sorry "So Sorry."

On the left side of the page, they listed similar artists. One of them was David Gray, so I checked that out. On his list of similar artists, they listed Matt Nathanson. I think of all the boys I listen to in heavy rotation, Matt has the biggest chance to make it. I think he'll become like the Mraz, who (and this is going to sound terrible) I hope fizzles out. I hope people forget about him because I want him to slip back into the realm of the unknown where he can live happily among the likes of David Gray and Teitur and Howie Day.

I hate Mtv. That is my point. I hate them for their inaccuracy. I hate them for turning musicians into whores. I hate them for turning whores into musicians. I hate them for appealing to the lowest common denominator. I hate them for turning children into idiots. I hate them for ruining music.

jorajo: Another post! About Howard.

I love how he prefaces his love songs about how he wrote them to get laid.

Admit it, fucker. You're a sensitive little girl.

At least John admits he's a pussy bitch. Out loud. In front of all his fans.

Why doesn't he preface "Come Lay Down" by saying he wrote it to get laid? Because I'd fall for it. That song is hot.
